The Harvest Initiative: Investing in the people of Crow Creek

Partners

The Harvest Initiative benefits from the support of many partner individuals and organizations. Without their valuable assistance and insight, the goals of The Harvest Initiative would be much more difficult to achieve. The following are some of our partners, but does not include every organization who has supported us. If you or your organization would like to partner with The Harvest Initiative on any of our projects, please contact us!

Boys & Girls Club of Three Districts

The Harvest Initiative's original contact and entrance to the community was through the Boys & Girls Club of Three Districts located in Fort Thompson. This organization provides needed services to the community's youth and we will continue to work closely with them to explore funding options. The services provided by the club cost money and it is important to ensure that the organization is maximizing its resources. Our organization has helped to locate private funding sources and is working with a grant writing group to ensure that the local club can a access these funds. Additionally, through we are assisting in the formation of the Great Plains Coalition of Native Boys & Girls Clubs to create an entity that will be a full-time funding locator for native clubs in Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Diamond Willow Ministries (DWM)

Diamond Willow Ministries is an active relief ministry headed by Rod Vaughn. DWM focuses on spiritual growth of tribe members but also provides tangible needs to the community. It is a widely respected organization among the tribe and its relief services take pressure away from many families which allows for the Harvest Initiative's services to then be useful in a household. Our organization provides consultation to their work and supports their endeavors as they continually provide access to various parts of the community.

Citigroup and South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED)

These two groups combined to give the Harvest Fund $50,000 that will go directly toward the start of 8 new businesses that will be created in 2010. Citi is involved in many projects throughout Indian Country. GOED is utilizing this as a pilot project that has the potential for expansion in other rural areas.

South Dakota Indian Business Alliance (SDIBA)

SDIBAis a network of many organizations and individuals who support private Indian business development. It was formed in 2007 to increase funding and technical assistance for small business development. Additionally, SDIBA is working to make significant improvements in tribal legal and governance infrastructure. The Harvest Initiative has taken an active role on behalf of the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation. Our role is to provide expertise but more importantly ensure that the interests of Crow Creek Sioux Tribe are taken into consideration as SDIBA develops policy.
