Harvest Initiative Summer Intern Introduces Herself
June 24, 2010
Hello, my name is Bethany Kirkie. I am the summer intern here at The Harvest Initiative and Hunkpati Investments offices. I was chosen by Jason Yates and Dustin Miller to work here at the Harvest Initiative this summer. So far, I am really enjoying my job! There is a good atmosphere here and I get along well with all of my co-workers/bosses. I am very thankful to have been chosen to work here. This job is helping me in many different ways.
I am an enrolled member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. I grew up here on the reservation and just recently graduated from Crow Creek Tribal Schools. Class of 2010! Although I have been living on the reservation all my life, this was my first and only year attending Crow Creek Tribal Schools. I really enjoyed attending school here. I was around all my childhood friends and family members all of the time. I was very lucky to graduate at the top of my class receiving top honors as valedictorian. The school year went by very fast, but there are many memories that will be with me forever. My classes were not that easy to pass. In my Econ. class is where I met Jason and Dustin. They came in to talk to us about certain jobs they do here at the Harvest Initiative and Hunkpati Investments.
After the summer comes to an end and everyone gets ready to go back to school, I plan on attending Black Hills State University or South Dakota State University. I am uncertain on which university I want to attend yet, but I know that I am going to go to school and further my education. I plan on going to college and studying to become a pharmacist. I have learned from my elders that you are never too old to learn new things in life. So I plan on learning until I reach my goals!
