Bad Nation Barber & Beauty Shop Nearing Completion

June 2, 2010

Melva Rank, owner of Bad Nation Barber & Beauty Shop, is looking forward to giving her first haircut in her brand new shop. Thanks to her hard work and financial support through the Harvest Initiative Business Development Fund, her wait is almost over.

The weather in central South Dakota has improved and construction is nearing completion on the new Shop which is next to Melva's home just outside Fort Thompson on Bad Nation Road.

In addition to the funding support provided by the Business Development Fund, Melva has taken advantage of many of the other business support services available through The Harvest Initiative and Hunkpati Investments. She will graduate next week from the Indianpreneurship course that is offered by Hunkpati Investments and has also completed training in Quickbooks.

"I am thankful for the Business Development Fund grant," said Melva. "I've always wanted to have my own beauty shop and this has helped make that a reality."

The Harvest Initiative is pleased to have been a part of this new business on the Crow Creek Reservation and looks forward to following the success of the new enterprise.

The Harvest Initiative was founded in 2008 to invest locally in Native grown ideas and support socially responsible business development to move the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation toward a commercially viable, self-sustaining economic environment.
